Dental Fillings

Dental fillings are used to replace missing tooth structures caused by decay or trauma. Teeth become hollow as a result of decay. Dental fillings help to close the gap and keep it from decaying further. A filling can also be used to restore teeth that have been damaged or cracked, as well as teeth that wear off due to habits such as teeth grinding and nail-biting.

Post-Operative instructions after Composite Restoration

  • Sensitivity may occur in the first 24 hours after the anesthesia wears off.

  • Sensitivity to heat and cold might be present for a few days after the restoration, usually deeper the cavity the more sensitive the tooth will be.

  • Composite fillings set up hard right away. There is no waiting time to eat. But should avoid chewing excessively hard food on the filled teeth.

  • Children should be observed until the anesthetic wears off. Due to the strange feeling of the anesthetic, many children will chew the inside of their lips, cheeks, or tongue which can cause serious damage.

  • If after a week or two, your bite does not feel even with the other teeth, please call for an appointment for a simple adjustment.

  • If the sensitivity is present longer than a few weeks, please get it examined.
